The Next Gen

Growth and Independence

By: Brenda Bartlett / Anthony S. Layton

In our last newsletter in July we announced that we were closing in on $1 billion in assets under management. We’re pleased to report we reached that milestone in November, thanks to strong markets and a steady stream of new clients who are discovering our investment philosophy and our commitment to personal service.

We’re proud of our growth, but we’re staying true to our roots as an independent, entrepreneurial firm that’s focused on doing what is right for our clients. We’re able to do that because we’ve found a balance between old-school values and innovation.

Next year we’ll celebrate our 20th anniversary as a business. Three of the original four partners (Anthony Layton, James Parkyn and Cameron Passmore) are still at the helm, and many of our clients have been with us for a decade or more. All that experience means our clients have enjoyed a consistent, disciplined process through all of the ups and downs the markets have delivered during the past two decades.

But if wisdom comes with grey hair, it needs to be balanced with the fresh ideas and the enthusiasm that come with new blood. And at PWL we’re fortunate to have some of the brightest young advisors on our teams in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Waterloo. These young guns are tech-savvy, skilled in social media and attuned to the needs of investors who are still in the early stages of wealth accumulation. This edition of Perspectives features articles by several of them, to give you a close-up look at the next generation at PWL.
