Switching Employers

February 21, 2018 - 0 comments

There are lots of moving parts in your finances if you choose, or are forced, to change employers. It can also be a stressful time worrying about finding a new job, making ends meet, and handling all of life’s other activities. I offer up some things to think about when switching employers that may or may not be on your radar. First things first, make sure you have an emergency fund available to fund expenses if you don’t have new work lined up, or case your first pay cheque is delayed. If you’re relying on your employer’s group life and disability coverage, be sure to look into conversion privileges so you aren’t uninsured at any point in time. Look into options available to you if you were let go, like employment insurance and severance benefits, and finally, don’t forget about making a decision around your employer pension plan. I outline these and more in my latest video.
