Will I really spend that much in retirement?

When deciding to retire an important question is 'How much capital do I need to be able to enjoy a comfortable retirement?' This week in the Science of Investing I discuss with with Jason McIntyre of CFRA's Business at Night several studies that show we spend less later in retirement. This is positive news, you may need less capital that you thought.

A lot of the people in those studies, i.e. 0 years old lived through the Depression of the 1920's. I think this may have affected their thinking and behavior.

Learning to live a frugal lifestyle at retirement will be the new norm for baby boomers. In my opinion. A very small percentage has taken retirement planning serious over the years they were working and earning the most.
