The Case for Renting a Home – Part 2

April 13, 2018 - 0 comments

In my last video, I gave you several solid reasons why home ownership may not be all it’s cracked up to be, at least from a financial perspective. Still not convinced? Today’s video is for you. I’ll show you some actual numbers, so you can see for yourself how an “investment” in home ownership might compare to cozying up to some decent index funds instead.

Don’t get me wrong. There are plenty of reasons to own rather than rent. You might want to renovate and repair your space whenever and however you please. Or maybe you prefer to live in a neighbourhood where rental isn’t an option. Perhaps you’ve inherited your parents’ home, and you have no intention of giving it up.

If you’ve got these or any other reasons of your own, so be it. But if you were figuring you had to buy instead of rent because you’d be throwing away good money, think again. While you’re at it, think about subscribing to Common Sense Investing. I’ll continue to help you home in on how to make all sorts of smart financial decisions.
