Your Goal Number™

“Let our advance worrying become advance thinking and planning.”
Winston Churchill

Your Goal Number™ is the portfolio value that will enable you to achieve personal financial freedom – as determined by the definition of financial freedom you set for yourself. It is a specific target, and we use it to focus and channel your financial planning and savings efforts in a positive direction. At times, the figure may need to be modified, as your priorities or personal circumstances change. It will, however, always remain a clearly defined beacon, guiding you towards financial freedom.
Your Goal Number™ is an absolutely individualized number, and it’s determined by several factors, which could include: personal goals, life expectancy, family planning, estate planning issues, and individual risk tolerance. Together, we will review all of these important factors and calculate the number that satisfies your particular needs. Then we can effectively create and implement the strategy that will enable you to achieve your goals.

The figures below represent the minimum portfolio values needed to retire at three specific points in time: today, in 10 years, or in 20 years – at three different “spending levels”.
As this is a simplified table, we assume that, for all periods and all portfolios, inflation is 2.5%, the rate of return is 4.5% above inflation, and life expectancy is 30 years from the point of retirement. Additionally, we assume that your withdrawal increases annually to match inflation; and no government benefits have been taken into consideration.
For example: Assuming 2.5% inflation per year, pre-tax retirement income of $150,000 today will be equivalent to an annual pre-tax income of $192,013 in 10 years.
